Which of the following options represent the variation of photoelectric current with property of light shown on the x-axis?
Photoelectric Current ∝ Intensity ONLY (more photons = more electrons)! Current is INDEPENDENT of frequency (above ν₀)! ⟹ Only Graph A is correct!
Intensity of light represents the energy incident per unit area per second, which for a given frequency is directly proportional to the number of incident photons per second. Since one photon liberates at most one photoelectron:
For incident light with frequency ν greater than the threshold frequency ν₀, changing the frequency while maintaining constant intensity does NOT change the number of incident photons (in fact, if energy intensity is constant, photon flux I/(hν) slightly decreases). In standard NCERT experiments where photon flux is maintained:
Graph D shows a linear relationship with a non-zero threshold intercept:

100% correct. Current is directly proportional to intensity (Graph A) and independent of frequency.
Incorrect. Photoelectric current does not increase linearly through origin with frequency.
Incorrect. Graph D represents stopping potential vs frequency, not current vs frequency!
Incorrect. Graph B wrongly claims current is independent of intensity.
Almost every student recognizes the classic shape of Graph D from NCERT! But in NCERT, Graph D has "Stopping Potential (V₀)" or "Maximum K.E." on the y-axis, NOT "Photoelectric Current". NTA deliberately tested if students read the axes carefully!
"Photoelectric current is directly proportional to the intensity of incident radiation."
